Chapter 19

Reva felt a bit silly as she sat on the padded plastic chair in the waiting room of the doctor’s office.

Due to the number of times she fainted, the doctor had decided it was severe enough that she should be seen right away. She knew her health was important, but she didn’t want to worry everyone.

However, whether she intended to or not, her fainting spells had caused Matt and everyone else a great deal of concern. Reva knew the least she could do was get herself checked out. She hoped this trip would be as simple as getting a prescription that would alleviate the physical issues she had been having lately.

“Reva Brennan?” a nurse called, opening the door to the hallway leading to the examination rooms.

“Carver,” she corrected as she stood up.

“I’ll make a note,” the nurse said, scribbling something down on her clipboard.

Reva got up and followed her to the scale. She stepped on and waited for the nurse to record her weight.

“What brings you in today?” she asked as she shifted the numbers back and forth.

“I’ve been feeling sick. And I’ve fainted.”

“Better get your blood pressure then. Sit there.”

She pointed to a padded plastic chair identical to the ones sitting in the lobby. Reva sat down and removed her coat. She held her arm out. The nurse put the cuff around her arm and began to take the reading.

The nurse regarded her curiously as she waited for the reading. The cuff squeezed tightly around her arm.

“I’m happy the doctor was able to get me in so quickly,” Reva said.

“You’ll need to be quiet for the reading to be accurate.”

Reva nodded and stayed quiet. She wondered if the nurse’s curtness was because her reputation preceded her.

Finally, the machine beeped, and Reva felt the cuff loosen around her arm. The nurse scribbled down the readings.

“Is it good?” Reva asked.

“The doctor will be able to explain the results to you.”

“Oh, okay. Sorry.”

The nurse led Reva back to an examination room. She closed the door behind her. Reva sat down on the paper-covered examination table.

“So, you say you’ve been feeling sick and have fainted?”

“That’s right.”

“Are you feeling as though you’ll faint now?”

Truthfully, Reva did still feel sick. However, the room wasn’t spinning nearly as hard as it had before. Her head just felt a little light. “I don’t think I’ll faint. I’m still feeling off, though.”

“And you’re still associated with the inn here in town?”

Reva thought that question was phrased oddly. However, she was used to the looks and odd questions when her line of work came up. The people of Shadow Woods still thought The Dimidio Inn was spooky, even if they didn’t believe in ghosts.

“Yes. I own it and work there.”

The nurse nodded and scribbled down a note. “The doctor will be in with you shortly.”

The nurse walked out of the room, closing the door behind her.

Reva sighed and looked at the clock on the wall. She felt relieved that her bond with Cyrus was as strong as ever, but that was pushing her even more to save him.
